Josefine (Jo) T. Murnan, 59, of Indianapolis, passed away on the 21st of November, 2009, after a months-long battle with cancer. She was born on September 3rd, 1950, in Straubing, West Germany and came to the United States in 1964. She worked several years as a bartender and waitress in various restaurants and pubs – The Ground Round, The Mini-Pub, Pikes Peak, Priola’s, The Bowery and Casio’s. She was well known for her out-going personality and love of a good joke. She was also known for saying “Dynamite comes in small packages!” when a customer stepped out of line. She was a Navy wife for 15 years and an Army wife for 7 years. As such, she traveled to Iceland, Greece and Italy, picking up a little Icelandic, pretty good Greek and fluent Italian. These were in addition to her German, of course, and English. She was very much a veteran of service to her adopted country.Jo was really very good in the kitchen, specializing in hearty German meals and terrific Italian-style dishes. Her German Potato Salad and Green Bean Casserole were in big demand at pitch-ins and picnics. She loved her cats, milk chocolate, country and western music (especially Patsy Cline) and, lately, grew very fond of Hawaiian Island music. Jo was always ready to listen when a friend needed to talk. She would help whenever and however she could. Jo was a wonderful wife, a loving mother and a true friend. Jo was preceded in her last journey by her mother, Theresia Kachlmeier LeMaster; her step-father, Harrison LeMaster; and her sister Sylvia Lewandowski (Dennis). She is survived by her husband, Bill; her sons Raymond P. Gibson (Philippina) and Walter C. Gibson; granddaughters Mallory and Olivia Gibson; sister Irene Schoenauer (John) of Ohio; brothers Alfred LeMaster, George LeMaster (Tammy), Bill LeMaster; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, December 5th, 2009 at Soldiers Memorial Chapel at Fort Harrison, 5626 Lawton Loop East, Indianapolis at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Your Mother’s saying “dynamite comes in small packages” has a special meaning to me. My great aunt believe in that saying and she has passed too. I know Mom will be missed by Ray and his Family but her pain is has been eased by God. He decided to make her well again in his kingdom.
